About This Project

Like many well-intentioned people who like to learn things, I’m on a “word a day” email list (I get mine from Merriam-Webster–where do you get yours?). Like many other not-so-well-intentioned people, I sometimes embark on ambitious projects that keep me from doing more useful things. Now let’s combine those two things. Here’s the plan.

  1. I get my word a day.
  2. I post the word and its meaning.
  3. I write a poem that may a) define the word or b)  use the word or c) be about the word in some way or d) other.
  4. Here’s the twist: I am NOT A POET. I never write poetry (well, not since high school, but that’s better left unexplored). Why? Because I am not a good poet. I’m hoping, though, that if I manage to keep this up, maybe every so often I’ll get it right.

So here’s to crazy plans. Now let’s see how long and how well I keep this up. Wish me luck–

Update: It seems that the “poems” have definitely fallen into category c, that is poems that are about the meaning of the word. Vaguely. Maybe I should say they’re in the spirit of the word? Sure. Why not?

  2. I really love this idea.
And in my opinion, anyone can be a poet. It’s just a matter of finding the right words.

    • Finding the right words is the trick indeed. In the end, I figure it’s just all about having fun and challenging yourself. Thanks!
